Pet shop visit

On Thursday of this week (14th January), we are taking the children on a (surprise!) visit to the local pet shop to buy some fish for our tank in Nursery. The children will be taken in small groups, accompanied by me, Mr Wisby and another member of staff.

Many parents gave consent for their child to attend local visits when they registered at the start of the year and, as this is a local visit, no written consent needs to be given. However, if you would not like your child to attend, please speak to a member of staff.

Wheels, Wings and other things!

After a lovely long Christmas break, our children are back and raring to go! It was fantastic to see everyone again and to hear all about their Christmas holidays and visits from Santa - there were lots of excited children full of tales this week!

This week, we began our topic Wheels, Wings and Other Things! Over the next half term we will be reading stories about different types of vehicles and doing lots of transport related tasks!

We started by reading Dig, Dig, Digging and Tip Tip, Dig Dig, two books that the children really enjoyed. The tuff tray was full of digger related fun...

The children loved scoop, scoop, scooping and dig, dig, digging!

There was also some great mark-making and gross motor play when we got the cars and ink pads out...

There was some great phonics practice and children enjoyed getting a bit messy with our paint covered a-a-apple and the letter 'a'.

On Thursday, we met Miss MacBean who will be working with us as part of her SCITT teacher training course. The children are very excited to have another adult in our class to play and learn with.

And finally, how cute are these play-dough models made by Nasya? There's a dinosaur, a bird and a snowman! Super work!

Around the apple, down the leaf!

This week, our phonics children are practising the sound 'a'. We will be sounding out 'a', forming it on whiteboards and using apple print to decorate the letter on paper.

Here's a really good video that shows how to pronounce the pure sounds that we teach in phonics and a download of some initial sounds and word bingo. Hopefully it will help any parents who want to support their child's learning at home.

I spoke to a few parents whose children do the Read Write Inc. phonics programme about it at parents meetings but if you have any questions, please leave a comment or speak to me at your child's nursery session.

Special Snacks

Hi everyone,

Hope you've all thoroughly enjoyed the break and have been able to enjoy some time off with your children.

I will be continuing with our weekly Special Snack in nursery - the children have really enjoyed choosing their favourite food and it's encouraged some great maths discussions about which food has the most votes.

Over the next half term, I have chosen the following snacks. If your child has an allergy to any of them, please let a member of staff know or post a comment below.

Week 1: Watermelon or Blueberries

Week 2: Chapatti with dip or Falafel with dip

Week 3: Raspberries or Apricots

Week 4: Avocado or Papaya

Week 5: Crumpets (with butter) or Pancakes (with jam)

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!
